There are a couple of grocery stores expected to open in the Triangle in 2027. Those include:

  • Wegmans plans to open a new store in Holly Springs. A public relations representative with Wegmans told The News & Observer in June 2024 that the grocer was aiming for a 2027 opening for the store, which would be its fifth in the Triangle.
  • Sprouts Farmers Market plans to open a new Raleigh location off Glenwood Avenue in the Pleasant Valley Promenade shopping center in early 2027. This will be the grocer’s third Triangle store.

Several grocers have been announced, but opening dates have not been shared.

  • Lowes Foods is opening two new stores in Wake County — in Wendell and Fuquay-Varina. Kelly Dillon Davis, senior director of guest engagement for the grocer, told The News & Observer in an email that it is still too early to provide anticipated openings, but the Wendell location will open before the one in Fuquay-Varina. Lowes Foods is an anchor tenant of the Academy Village development in Fuquay-Varina, and its first buildings are expected to deliver in the first quarter of 2027, The N&O previously reported.
  • Target announced plans to anchor Ellerbe Square, a development coming to the old Northgate Mall site in Durham. The Minneapolis-based retailer has not shared an expected opening date for that location, however.
  • Whole Foods Market is expanding in Wake County, moving into a former Lowes Foods at Preston Corners shopping center in Cary. An opening date for this location, the grocer’s third in Cary, has not been shared.
