After months of repairs, a Triangle grocery store will reopen soon.

The long-awaited Aldi in Chapel Hill will begin welcoming customers this week for the first time since last summer, when the store was damaged by flooding from the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal.

Located at 1800 E. Franklin St. in the Eastgate Crossing shopping center, Aldi will reopen its doors at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 16.

The store’s regular hours will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.

“At Aldi, we take pride in supporting our local communities, especially in times of need,” Krysta Cearley, Aldi regional vice president, said in a news release. “We’re proud to reopen our doors and offer our Chapel Hill shoppers the same quality groceries they count on at the lowest possible prices.”

The News & Observer has reached out to Aldi for more information about what to expect at the store.

Aldi first opened in Chapel Hill in 2021. The Eastgate location is its only store in Chapel Hill, though the low-cost Germany-based retailer has multiple stores across the Triangle, including in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Garner and Fuquay-Varina.

There are several other grocers near the Chapel Hill Aldi, such as Whole Foods Market, Food Lion and Trader Joe’s.

Aldi is the latest Eastgate Crossing business to reopen after the storm.

Both Petco and Snooze, a breakfast and brunch hotspot, celebrated grand reopenings at the shopping center in March.

Kipos Greek Taverna reopened in February, and The Loop in January.

Several businesses, including Trader Joe’s, Great Outdoor Provision Co. and Guglhupf, reopened in 2025.

Still others, though — such as Starbucks, Talbots and Rise Southern Biscuits and Righteous Chicken — decided not to rebuild.
