Where will the store open?

The new store is planned for 9825 Clayton Blvd. in Clayton, a roughly 15-mile drive southeast from downtown Raleigh. The site is across from a Sheetz convenience store, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 Business and N.C. Highway 36.

“When it comes to choosing new store locations, we carefully consider several factors,” Kelly Brennan, regional vice president for Aldi, told The News & Observer in a May 27 email. “Bottom line, we look for convenient locations for our customers that can support high traffic volume daily.”

Aldi bought the Clayton property for $2.15 million in 2024. A preliminary layout included a 19,054-square-foot store and 99 parking spots, The N&O previously reported.

The grocery chain and Wimco Corp — a general contractor whose name was on a sign at the construction site — didn’t share an opening date with The N&O. Brennan said Aldi will release more details in the future.

What will the new Aldi store sell?

The new Aldi store is expected to offer seasonal foods, household items and other products.

“Customers can expect a quick, easy shopping experience with great products at the lowest possible prices,” Brennan wrote. “Our smaller stores are stocked with only the items customers need so they can get in and out, and our award-winning exclusive brands help shoppers save without sacrificing quality.”

Aldi’s roots trace back to Germany, where the Albrecht family started selling discount groceries decades ago. Now, the chain has more than 2,000 stores across the United States, according to its website.

Dozens of those supermarkets are in North Carolina, including Triangle locations in Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Raleigh and Wake Forest.

The Aldi isn’t the only new grocery store coming to the Triangle. Lotte Plaza Market — which describes itself as a “Pan-Asian grocery brand” — shared plans to open in Morrisville in 2027, The N&O previously reported.
