A store is closing its doors at Crabtree Valley Mall.

Furniture World is moving out of its space at the popular Raleigh shopping center. The store — which sells sofas, dining room sets, and other household items — said it will re-open somewhere else.

“After many wonderful years of serving our Raleigh community, we are closing our current location to move to a bigger & better location to serve you in the future,” Furniture World Raleigh wrote May 9 in a Facebook post.

What is Furniture World?

Furniture World is on the first level of Crabtree mall, near Macy’s. The store said its Raleigh showroom “features a curated selection of furniture and mattresses displayed in room settings so you can see how pieces look together.”

“We’re a family-owned furniture store offering a wide selection of living room, bedroom, dining room, home office, outdoor furniture, and mattresses,” the store wrote on its website.

The News & Observer noted social media posts and signs at the mall but didn’t see a specific closing date listed. As of Memorial Day weekend, the store was promoting closing-related discounts for shoppers.

“This is not a test… The store is actually closing,” Furniture World Raleigh wrote Friday, May 22 in a Facebook post.

Furniture World also has locations in Burlington and Greensboro as well as in Norfolk, Virginia. The store didn’t immediately share additional information with The News & Observer on Tuesday, May 26.

The N&O also has reached out to Crabtree to learn what could replace Furniture World and is awaiting a response.

Other changes at Crabtree mall

The closure is one of the latest shakeups at Crabtree Valley Mall, which is located at 4325 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh.

As of May 12, Urban Planet by Charlotte Russe was coming to a former Toys ‘R’ Us space at the mall. The shopping center didn’t list an opening date for the new store on its website, The N&O previously reported.

Here’s a list of other stores that planned for springtime openings at the mall:

  • Five Guys, a burger restaurant
  • Escapology, an escape room franchise
  • JD Sports, a sports clothing shop
  • Pop Mart, a toy store
