A North Carolina bike shop is closing after four years of serving cyclists in the Triangle.

East Coast Electric Speed Shop — which sold and repaired e-bikes and e-scooters — shared the announcement on social media Friday, May 1.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have no choice but to close the business,” the shop wrote on its website. “It has truly been an honor to serve the Triangle for the past four years both in our Carrboro and Raleigh location and I can’t thank all of you enough for all of your support.”

The shop had a presence on West Main Street in Carrboro and West Peace Street in downtown Raleigh. The business in a 2022 YouTube video touted the environmental and cost benefits of riding e-bikes.

As the shop announced that it was permanently closing, it directed people to other local places where they could get their bikes serviced. You can see a list of those recommendations on East Coast Electric Speed Shop’s Facebook page.

“We can’t thank you all enough for your support over the last few years,” the shop wrote. “It’s truly been a pleasure to serve our community and the decision to close the business was not made lightly.”

East Coast Electric Speed Shop didn’t give an exact date for the closure. The News & Observer reached out and is awaiting a response as of Tuesday, May 5.

Other Triangle business closures

East Coast Electric Speed Shop is one of several Raleigh-area businesses to close its doors.

Recently, the Meow City cat boutique in Cary permanently closed. And some Painted Tree Boutiques and Wendy’s fast-food locations in the Triangle also aren’t around anymore, The N&O previously reported.
