The store is planned for the mall’s first level, near Macy’s. Toys ‘R’ Us had operated a temporary store in the space last holiday season, according to signs at the mall and previous reporting from The News & Observer.

What is Urban Planet?

Urban Planet said it sells clothes, accessories and shoes, with a focus on affordability.

“Catering to a broad core demographic of young men & women aged 16 to 24, our customers are part of a generation constantly looking for that next best thing,” parent company YM Inc. wrote on its website.

Urban Planet is based in Canada, where it has more than 100 locations. The store also has a footprint in the United States, though its website doesn’t list any stores in North Carolina.

Representatives for Crabtree and Urban Planet didn’t immediately share additional information with The N&O on Tuesday, May 12.
