Macy’s is reopening stores in Raleigh and Durham, with some coronavirus safeguards

Macy’s planned to reopen stores in Raleigh and Durham on Monday, and is offering curbside pickup.

The company said in a news release that plexiglass barriers have been installed at some registers, and its workers are being asked to wear face masks. High-traffic areas will be cleaned more often, the company said.

Macy’s closed its stores nationwide on March 17, according to a company press release.

Retail stores in North Carolina were allowed to reopen at 50% capacity on May 8 under Phase One of the governor’s plan to increase economic activity in the coronavirus pandemic. Some, like Macy’s, did not open right away, The News & Observer has reported.

Macy’s stores at Triangle Town Center and Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, and at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham were to be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to a news release. Macy’s at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville also planned to be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
