Durham police are investigating after a man was found dead from a gunshot wound on Erwin Road Monday night.

Officers responded just before 10 pm to a gunshot wound call in the 2800 block of Erwin Road and found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner, said the man was found outside Heavenly Buffaloes, at 2816 Erwin Road, less than a mile from the Duke and VA hospitals.

“Investigators are on scene determining the circumstances surrounding this incident; based on the preliminary investigation foul play is not involved,” according to a Durham Police Department news release.

In response to questions from The N&O, a department spokesperson later said police think the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
