School test scores dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic. What should North Carolina do to improve student performance?
It is imperative we fully fund our schools and ensure students have access to quality education especially post-COVID. We must direct resources to serve students who are at most risk for education loss and provide bridge programs that will meet the needs of our students and their families.
What do you want to happen in North Carolina if Roe v. Wade is overturned?
We must protect a woman’s right to choose the health care that is best for them, and it will be critical that North Carolina not restrict access to health care. I have and will continue to fight to make sure everyone has access to comprehensive health care.
What should North Carolina do to reduce violent crime?
We must hold violent criminals accountable while making investments in communities so families achieve economic stability through avenues like affordable housing and health care. We need appropriate gun control laws like universal background checks, closing gun show loopholes, and safe storage laws.
Should medical marijuana be legalized in North Carolina?
If legalized, North Carolina would join a growing list of over 40 states to legalize marijuana for medicinal use. It has been proven to be effective in relieving pain from chronic conditions and treating PTSD for folks that have experienced trauma, such as veterans.
What should the state’s minimum wage be? What policies would you support to help struggling North Carolinians?
Increasing the minimum wage overall to $15 is a starting point. It should be adjusted for inflation annually so it will increase as prices for goods and services continue to rise. North Carolinians have waited too long and we need to have a livable wage that allows for people to live on, not get by.
Should North Carolina expand Medicaid, and how?
North Carolina should expand Medicaid. At a time when the cost of living is at an all-time high, we need to ensure that people can get affordable access to health care. More than 600,000 people would benefit from fully expanding Medicaid in the state of North Carolina.
Is there an area where you disagree with your party? Why?
Every issue must be reviewed based on how it will impact the people of the district I am elected to represent and the people of North Carolina. I am elected to represent the people of the district, not a political party.
What are your top issues? Pick up to three.
