Education: Bachelors in psychology from Georgia State University. Law degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Have you run for elected office before? No, I have never run before.

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: My military service, my role as lead committee counsel for House Homeland Security and Senate Judiciary, my experience facilitating support groups for teen victims of violence, working as a crisis counselor, and currently volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem, have taught me to lead from the heart.

What could you do, if elected, to help make the justice system more equitable or accessible?

I would support technology to reduce language barriers that disadvantage the deaf, hard-of-hearing, and non-native English speakers. I would reduce unreasonable delays in court proceedings that unduly burden single parents and people earning an hourly wage, and promote judicial consistency.

Tell us about a specific event in your legal career of which you are most proud.

I have built bridges without regard to any party’s politics and crafted legislation rooted in compassion and commonsense. I am most proud of closing a legal loophole regarding consent. The change was celebrated nationally. CBS News reported: “For the first time, ‘No’ means ‘No’ in North Carolina.”
