Matt Able will withdraw from the NBA Draft and enroll at UNC, per Marc Spears of Andscape, ending weeks of speculation over the Tar Heel commit’s future.

“I’ve decided to withdraw my name from the 2026 NBA Draft and continue my development at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,” Able said in a statement provided to Andscape. “Grateful for the feedback I received throughout this process and excited to be part of the Tar Heel family.”

Able had risen into second-round consideration after a strong showing at the NBA Draft Combine that included efficient shooting numbers in drills and scoring 15 in a scrimmage win in Chicago.

Players have until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday to withdraw from the NBA Draft and retain college eligibility.

Able, a 6-foot-6 wing from Baltimore, entered the transfer portal in April before committing and signing to UNC under new head coach Michael Malone.

As a freshman at N.C. State Able averaged 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 21.7 minutes per game, shooting 41.6% from the field and 35.5% from three. He scored a season-high 19 points — including five 3-pointers — in a February win over North Carolina in Raleigh.

Able’s return gives Malone a key piece in a rebuilt UNC backcourt, where Able is projected to take on an expanded role as a shooting guard and secondary ball handler.
