An Italian restaurant with roots in downtown Raleigh is expanding to a new location in North Raleigh.

It’s at the request of customers, Vic’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria owner Mario Longo Jr. told The News & Observer in a phone interview. He’s excited to bring the restaurant to a new part of town, he said.

Right now, Vic’s Italian Restaurant has locations in downtown Raleigh’s City Market and on Lake Boone Trail. Longo’s brother, Michael Longo, also operates Vic’s Pizzeria on Glenwood Avenue in downtown Raleigh.

The new Vic’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria will be in a former KFC and Taco Bell on Six Forks Road at Millbrook Road, in Colony Shopping Center, which is anchored by a Food Lion.

Because the building at 5434 Six Forks Road was previously a restaurant, it doesn’t need an extensive renovation. Construction work will include adding some new pieces of equipment and cosmetic changes such as new paint, new furniture and signs, Longo Jr. said.

Vic’s Italian Restaurant will maintain the drive-thru for third-party delivery or takeout order pickups. The North Raleigh location will also offer catering.

It’s possible that the new location will evolve into a full-service restaurant, where diners are greeted by a host and seated, and a waiter takes their order at the table. However, initial plans are for a counter-service restaurant, Longo Jr. said.

Customers who dine in at the Six Forks location will order at a counter, and a staff member will bring their food to the table, and refill their drinks as they eat. The restaurant will seat around 40-50 people inside, Longo Jr. said, and he wants to offer patio seating as well.

The owner hopes to be able to stay open past midnight for late-night pizza cravings on weekends, he told The N&O.

Vic’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria is expected to open in about three months, Longo Jr. said.

Customers will recognize the menu from the Lake Boone location, which opened a decade ago. In addition to pasta, pizza and entrees such as eggplant parmigiana, plus soups and salads, the North Raleigh location will also sell beer and wine.

Pasta dishes start at $19, 14-inch specialty pizzas start at $21, and entrees start at $22, according to the online dinner menu at the Lake Boone Trail restaurant. Side salads start at $7, and soups at $8.

This is the only new Vic’s Italian Restaurant location in the works, but Longo Jr. said he and partners are working on a new restaurant concept.
