Is Black Friday still a big deal?

As people feel the pinch of inflated prices, shoppers are expected to consider major cutbacks on buying holiday items in excess, splurging on expensive gifts and taking trips that require extra money on hotels or gas. In this special report, we look at what you can expect from the 2022 holiday shopping season, and also provide you with guides to Triangle malls and major stores.

For decades, Black Friday kicked off the holiday shopping season, with long lines out front, door-buster deals and the occasional stampede.

While the presence of Black Friday savings remains strong, many shoppers have been drawn away from in-person shopping.

With the overwhelming popularity of online shopping, it has never been more convenient to cross off everything on that holiday shopping list without ever leaving the house.

For many major retailers, deals started online for the season’s hottest gifts long before Thanksgiving arrived.

But some Black Friday purists still prefer the rush of running inside when the doors to their favorite store fling open in early morning.

Many big-box stores began opening on Thanksgiving Day in years past, but almost all major retailers have reversed that decision since the pandemic.

Here are Thanksgiving and Black Friday hours for some of the biggest shopping locations in Raleigh, Durham and around the Triangle.

This list is subject to updating.
