In a world where many local taprooms are folding, the grocery store bar remains.

Many Triangle grocers sell beer and wine, but few serve it on site.

Anyone who’s ever been in a Lowes Foods knows about The Beer Den, where shoppers can sip wine, beer and even mimosas.

But Lowes Foods isn’t the only North Carolina grocer with a bar. Shoppers can get their adult beverages at Harris Teeter Taprooms, too.

Viral video at Harris Teeter Taproom

Public awareness of one such bar, at Harris Teeter’s store in the Brier Creek area, increased recently, after a video of some of the taproom’s customers went kind of viral.

Harris Teeter shared the video on its Facebook page Tuesday, April 14, but storyteller Liz Z Pardue reshared it this week. It shows a group of women dancing in the store to live music by Mike Davis.

Both posts received a lot of engagement. Harris Teeter’s post has more than 4,000 likes, nearly 300 comments and more than 225 shares as of Wednesday, April 29. Liz Z Pardue’s Instagram Reel had been viewed about 486,000 times as of April 29, and it had more than 23,000 likes.

The taprooms are open daily, but live music only happens once a week. At the Brier Creek location, customers can hear from musicians on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
