In August, Rolesville Mayor Ronnie Currin ordered a mask mandate unlike some other Wake County towns. Do you agree with this decision?
Yes, I agree with Mayor Ronnie Currin’s decision to order a mask mandate in Rolesville because, as a leader, he wants to make the right decision to protect the citizens of Rolesville. Wearing a mask will assist citizens to remain healthy and safe. Wearing face masks is recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of personal protective equipment (PPE) and as a public health measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
What is Rolesville doing right, and wrong, on managing growth?
Rolesville is home to about 8,500 residents, dozens of businesses, three Town parks, and three National Register of Historic Places sites. With small town charm, Rolesville’s “Genuine Community, Capital Connection” embodiment led to a population boom of 125% from 2010-2019. The Main Street Vision Plan will revitalize downtown Rolesville by updating and improving aesthetics, adding diverse housing options, re-establishing a town center, and providing opportunities for commercial development. This is what my town of Rolesville is doing right on managing growth.
If elected, what would your two or three priorities be during your first year in office?
“Be the Change”
If elected, I will promote commercial development while maintaining the small-town character that Rolesville already has. I will also monitor and report the status of the Economic Development Strategic Plan recommendations. Renew and refresh. I will monitor the status of the Comprehensive Plan Use plan recommendations. I will be the “Voice” for the people of Rolesville. Transportation is essential to Rolesville economic growth and the revitalization of its downtown. A well-maintained and fully functioning infrastructure is necessary for efficient and safe mobility in Rolesville. This mobility includes automobiles, public transit, bicycles, and pedestrians.
What unique skills or life perspective would you bring to city governance?
I feel very confident that I have the necessary skills and qualifications to fulfill the job as commissioner. My unique attribute is passion and dedication along with a drive to succeed. My wife and I are the founders and owners of DV Alston Consulting, LLC which is a financial coaching business that teaches clients to reach their financial goals through money management skills, building your savings and investments and of course debt elimination to achieve financial freedom and wealth building. I have an Associate of Science in Business Administration (concentration in Finance) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (concentration in Management). I will also bring the skills that I acquired during the 17 years that I served in the United States Army. I continue to live by this acronym today: LDRSHIP. L is for loyalty, D is for duty, R is for respect, S is for selfless service, H is for honor, I is for integrity and P is for personal courage.
