In August, Rolesville Mayor Ronnie Currin ordered a mask mandate unlike some other Wake County towns. Do you agree with this decision?
No, this was a board decision, and I will support it. I personally feel, however, the decision should be up to the individual family. I understand the science behind wearing masks, but requiring all citizens to wear a mask puts an unfair stigma on those who, for religious or health reasons, are unable or unwilling to wear a mask in public situations.
What is Rolesville doing right, and wrong, on managing growth?
Right: Rolesville’s current development on Main Street is aimed at giving the town a fresh “hometown” feel.
Could Be Improved: Allowing residential building by only one or two builders may lead the town to look like a “cookie-cutter” community. We need more diversity in our residential planning to include attractive, affordable housing for our first responders and other front-line workers.
If elected, what would your two or three priorities be during your first year in office?
The Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department has done an outstanding job of creating engaging venues for all ages. However, outside of these recreational sites, our community is not pedestrian-friendly. I would push to extend the current sidewalks along Main Street to the town limits on the north and south ends. We need to lower tax base on business to draw new commercial ventures to our town. I think we can do this and still grow.
What unique skills or life perspective would you bring to city governance?
I have a BS degree in Math, I’ve been a business owner or operator for nearly a quarter of a century, and I’ve been an officer of multiple civic organizations over the years. As a mortgage broker I keep a keen eye on the housing market and work with clients in a wide range of financial situations. I bill myself as a “solutions specialist.” I am committed to serving this community I call home.
