In August, Rolesville Mayor Ronnie Currin ordered a mask mandate unlike some other Wake County towns. Do you agree with this decision?
Yes, as a town leader it is my responsibility to take the entire community into consideration, which includes those who are immunocompromised as well as the children who are too young for the vaccination. We have to do our best to make sure everyone is safe.
What is Rolesville doing right, and wrong, on managing growth?
Rolesville just revised our Land Development Ordinance (LDO) which was huge! The staff and board worked together to make sure we thoughtfully kept growth at the forefront of the discussion. We have to continue making decisions taking the LDO, the Comprehensive Plan as well as the traffic into consideration. We have to make sure to layer all the plans and ordinances we have to make sure they all work together for the good of Rolesville.
If elected, what would your two or three priorities be during your first year in office?
To continue advocating for the strategic growth of Rolesville. Growth is skyrocketing and it is our job to make sure we carefully and strategically consider all moving pieces to make sure we are doing what is best for our Town.
My second is to advocate for Teen Programs. Being the mother of two teens raised in Rolesville, I know the need we have for programs for this age group. The benefits to these programs far outweigh just fun with their friends, The benefits are: better social skills, meeting new people, boosts to their confidence AND fun with their friends!
Finally, I will advocate for Community Development Programs for our residents. With the face of employment changing, now is the perfect time! Let’s help them write or re-write that resume, educate them on working cross-generationally with others, give them guidance on writing those business plans to hopefully open start-ups here in Rolesville. The list is endless of what we can do to help our community.
What unique skills or life perspective would you bring to city governance?
I have lived in Rolesville for almost 16 years and began volunteering not long after moving to the area. I have volunteered in our schools, with the Chamber, as a Cub Scout Leader, on a Town Committee. Our teen sons have been raised here in Rolesville. I was the executive director of the Rolesville Chamber of Commerce during their time of transition which afforded me the opportunity to work with the town before being appointed as commissioner in January 2020. I know and have been exposed to Rolesville’s business leaders, I understand what impact their businesses have on our town and how important they are to our economy. I have sat on the Board as Commissioners since January 2020 and have a much better understanding of how our town governance works, I am two years into the learning curve and have two years experience and history with projects and developments that are still coming before the board.
